Hundreds of office clerical workers at the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex say they will go on strike early next week unless they reach an agreement on a new labor contract this weekend. A walkout by the roughly 750 employees could result in major delays at the twin ports if other union longshore workers refuse to cross the office workers' picket lines. The the workers' union boss says negotiations are scheduled to continue through the weekend, but the union set a strike deadline of 12:01 am Monday. Both sides remain far apart on several issues, including wages. The lead negotiator for the marine terminal operators says office operations will continue in the event of a strike.
